YAY HEATHER WHITE! Heather White of Jackson Davis Elementary School is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored Heather recently at the school.

YAYWORTHY— Heather received six (!) nominations.

Nominator Bharat Amin said: “She is a great teacher that has adapted to virtual learning well and takes personal interest in my child. She encouraged my child to create art and gave her the confidence that it could be selected for the county contest. In past years my child has been unwilling to do so.”

Tina Trivette said: “She always starts the day off with a ‘good morning,’ stating every student’s name and telling them how happy she is to see her friends. She is such a positive force in each child’s life and always goes the extra mile to make learning, even in a virtual world, FUN! An example of her positivity is when she dropped off a care package of a book (specifically chosen for my daughter), and an Orange Crush with a note that said, ‘You Crushed it!’ for winning bingo! She has sent them mail too — and who doesn’t love getting mail?!”

Daphne Trivette said: “She plans fun things like bingo and lunch with her on Fridays, and she goes out of her way to give us awesome prizes if we win something. When I won bingo she gave me an Orange Crush soda and a book about Jane Goodall.”

Sinduja Ethiraj said: “She is a wonderful teacher and her efforts toward online classes are commendable! She puts extra effort into identifying and appreciating each kid’s skills. Her positive encouraging words and guidance give kids more confidence to do the best in the tasks provided.”

Leslie Straw said: “She has done an amazing job keeping my son engaged and learning and feeling safe in a turbulent time. Mrs. White has encouraged him to step up and be responsible for his own schoolwork and learn to speak up for himself.”

Halla Awdallah said: “She has gone above and beyond creating connections with her class, and encouraging her students to be independent, while still being available for them when they need her. Her random, thoughtful postcards for my son have really made his day. She has also delivered to our doorstep earned prizes, or school material. She is a loyal teacher who is always prepared and has a plan B when things don’t go as planned, in terms of technology.”

Thank you for all you do, Heather, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
