11 more Henrico teachers celebrate climb to profession’s highest level


11 Teachers achieve certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards

Henrico, Va., Jan. 24, 2018 – Henrico County Public Schools had 11 teachers achieve certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2017. Board certification is the profession’s highest mark of accomplishment. Ten additional Henrico teachers renewed their certifications.

Becoming certified is a rigorous process. Teachers must submit detailed portfolios to be reviewed by their peers. The portfolios include videos of the candidates teaching, documented professional accomplishments, reflective essays and examples of student work. Teachers must also must pass an exam relevant to his or her subject and level of instruction.

The teachers were recognized in a pinning ceremony Jan. 11 at VCU’s Vlahcevic Concert Hall along with teachers from the city of Richmond and the counties of Chesterfield and Hanover.

The newly certified teachers from Henrico County Public Schools are:

– Brianne Kintzer Conway, Douglas S. Freeman High School
– Melissa Christine Daniels, Deep Run High School
– Heather Dedie, Holman Middle School
– Donna Marshall, Lakeside Elementary School
– Amanda Nevetral, Central Office, Gifted Programs
– Hattie B. Smart, Deep Run High School
– Jenny Noel Smith, Quioccasin Middle School
– Keisha Tennessee, Advanced Career Education Center at Hermitage
– Shannon Wakefield, Tuckahoe Elementary School
