Henrico County Public Schools is announcing the following plans:

  1. Due to missed instructional time caused by snow and ice, Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, is now a FULL school day for all students. Feb. 19 has always been noted on the official 2017-18 school calendar as the potential make-up day.
  2. Mid-term exams for high school students and those who take high school level courses have been cancelled. This will allow high schools to recoup four FULL days of instructional time on Jan. 23-26, 2018. This decision is based on feedback received last school year when we surveyed principals, teachers, students and families about the best way to handle exams when two or more days of instructional time are missed. As a result:

Jan. 23, 24, 25 and 26 – Tuesday through Friday – will now be FULL school days for all high school students.

Students still have the option to take their exam(s) and should make arrangements by Wednesday, Jan. 17, with their teacher(s) to take these optional exam(s) on or before Jan. 26. If a student elects to take an exam, it will be counted as an exam grade if it helps a student’s semester grade.

Exams will not be given in alternate forms, such as tests or quizzes.

Exams for dual-enrollment courses, if required by a college or university, will be given over two class periods during the week of Jan. 22.

Monday, Jan. 29 remains a student holiday. As originally planned, this is a semester close-out, professional development and clerical day for teachers.

Note: For the 2018-19 school year mid-term exams will be administered in December 2018 as opposed to January 2019.
