Student ID Cards

Starting in the 2024-25 school year, all Henrico County Public Schools students will be provided student ID cards to bring and use to school every day. These cards are designed to streamline and simplify various parts of the school day, while making school environments safer and more secure. The cards bring together a handful of processes and makes them all accessible with a quick scan or tap.

Students will use their cards to:

  • Ride the bus.

  • Check out a book or other materials from the library.

  • Buy breakfast/lunch or use vending machines at the cafeteria.

  • Access specific technology services.

Pupil Transportation piloted a version of these cards for elementary school students who rode HCPS buses during the 2023-24 school year.

The student ID cards will be distributed near the start of the 2024-25 school year, along with a lanyard and protective cover. Required use of the student ID cards for after-school activities like sporting events and concerts will be phased in over time, beginning with varsity and JV football games at high schools this fall.

Check the FAQ below for more details on how students will use their ID cards, how the cards will be displayed and what to do when a card is lost or broken.
