Henrico, Va. Sept. 11, 2018 – Part of Henrico Schools’ expanded efforts on equity and diversity has been the creation of an Equity and Diversity Advisory Committee. The new group’s first meeting will be Monday evening at Henrico Schools’ Central Office on Nine Mile Road.

While members of the public are welcome to come and observe the meeting, only committee members will be able to participate.

The 26-person committee was formed this summer from a pool of 270 applicants. The group includes one teacher, one student, one parent and one school leader from each of Henrico’s five magisterial districts. The committee is chaired by the director of equity and diversity and supported by a liaison from the Henrico School Board.

Inaugural meeting, Henrico Schools’ Equity and Diversity Committee

When: Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
Where: Henrico County Public Schools Central Office/Eastern Henrico Government Center (Multipurpose Room), 3820 Nine Mile Road, Henrico, Va.

One source that will inform the new committee’s agenda will be information gleaned from a series of spring community listening sessions. The sessions were held in each magisterial district by the school division’s Office of Equity and Diversity.

In addition to the larger committee, which will meet monthly, members will be part of one or more subcommittees devoted to focused topics. The smaller groups will meet as necessary.
