Achievable Dream Academies logoHighland Springs Elementary School will welcome community leaders and hundreds of parents to the school Sept. 29 for the ceremonial grand opening of the school’s unique new educational program, An Achievable Dream Academy.

In addition to tours and remarks from school and county leaders, visitors will be present for the school’s daily morning meeting for students in grades K-2. The meeting will give guests a glimpse of academy components such as etiquette training and “speaking green,” or using the language of business and money.

The program got off the ground in July during the school’s summer intersession; this semester marks its debut among all of the school’s students in grades K-2.

A public/private partnership with An Achievable Dream was approved by the Henrico School Board in January 2017; this fall marks the first academic year the program has been implemented. Faculty and staff members of the new academy provide students with a well-rounded education using the “SAME” curriculum (Social, Academic and Moral Education) along with extensive extracurricular, experiential and cultural activities. Students learn important life skills through a specialized curriculum that includes ethics, etiquette, peaceful conflict resolution and healthy living.

The Achievable Dream program, founded in 1992, also operates in public schools in Newport News and Virginia Beach. Program alumni include lawyers, teachers, engineers and naval officers. Find out more about An Achievable Dream at achievabledream.org.
