Henrico, Va., April 10, 2018 – Henrico Schools’ first-ever Family Learning Series Summit aims to engage and empower parents and guardians through workshops, information, activities and food. The April 28 event will feature sessions geared toward parents and guardians, covering more than 30 topics. Included will be workshops on: parenting; literacy; diversity; exceptional education; study skills; and mental health.

“The summit is a chance for parents and guardians to get free information from experts, in a friendly, engaging setting,” said Pam Bell, director of Henrico Schools’ Department of Family and Community Engagement. “People pay large registration fees for similar conferences, but we want everyone to have a chance to attend.

“Parents and guardians will have a chance to select breakout sessions on topics that pique their curiosity, and to learn about HCPS programs that can help them to make collaborative decisions with their child’s school. Our goal is to build strong partnerships with families and equip them with a toolbox of resources to help them help their children.”

Register online at http://tiny.cc/fls/. After completing the form, online registrants will see a list of breakout sessions. Transportation for riders ages 4 and older is available by request via the registration form.

A continental breakfast will be available at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event, where attendees can also register if they have not done so. The keynote speech will be at 9:15 a.m., followed by a schedule of breakout sessions.

The event will feature:

– Workshops for parents and guardians
– A keynote speech from comedian Micah “Bam-Bamm” White
– Food trucks (food available for purchase)
– An information fair with tables for organizations relevant to families
– Activities for children ages 4 and older
